weekend review

so the weekend saw alot of action here is a summary

Barki – Had a great win at the weekend and Bernie coulter is doing wonders with his team. Luis Martellina has one last season before he returns to Gerhan but he did wonders to set up the goal for Saul Outher.

Bondard – Javerahn scored his third goal since joining from Barki. More worrying is that Caesar isn’t scoring and his penalty miss at the weekend will dent his confidence. Next game is away to Orto.

Carnavale – Cravell is the man of the moment, the whole league stood up to applaud his hat-trick last weekend and there is talk of Carnavale being mighty champions again. Lobby will test their credential but with real emerging talent such as Colsch and Gotsell as well as old hands such as Bera then they should do well this season.

Celcostene – after two quick wins the Blues are realising the hardship of Superleague, FER used their experience to brush them aside. Riagh will be in town and gunning for a win.

Celdical – the Flying Aces are aloft once more as they have rebounded to win two on the spin. Forgotten hero Cleavon Rielt scored both their goals but they had to hold on against Pvorby. They should beat Garth in their next game.

FER – Paul Caelgin was overlooked as a replacement for T-Max but in the absence of Foncisello he has been crucial to FER. Trevor Willis will pull the team around but he needs a strike partnership upfront as most of his forwards look like duds.

Garth – They are yet to appoint a successor to Bray but the car crash unfolding at City might mean he is back at the Township ground. A win at the weekend was vital and the manner of the comeback was great.

Kemojoran – another defeat for Kemo is crushing; none of their strikers seem to hit the target while away day blues haunt them.

Lobrinetonia – A brilliant run since coming back from the death on the 1st day, Lobby are a great machine with a solid defence and plenty attacking options. Vallerio was their man on this day as City were blown away.

Mariners – 2 losses in a row with 10 goal conceded suddenly looks like Pintare has caught the manager of the moment curse. He will regroup his battered men and restore pride in them.

Ortovyde – maybe just maybe this is Ortovydes year. With Gray in the team you are guaranteed excellent but be need the other strikers to chip in; Larkowitz doesn’t yet have the rapport with Gray. When they do it will be magic.

Pvorby – Farel Kuxta has been sorely missed in the last few weeks. Paul Scelka scored his first goal of the his career and will be a legend in years to come. Kuxta might be back for Pvorby at city.

Riagh Grande – still no win for Goff Heaney but his team look solid with his forwards getting in the act

Trinity Halmsed – They let it slip from their hands at home to Garth but they can look forward to the explosive match against Barki to get back on the road.

Varmonde – Lack of concentration is costing Varmonde dearly, Outher was left on the far post to score. Ene Losano is still being linked to City but he will wait.

Wossen City – The debacle continues as Peter Bray struggles on while being undermined by the board. Jose Regulan was seen talking to the president and could take over soon but language could be a barrier. As for Bray there are plenty of clubs that would want him.

Wossen Union – Just rolling along, they missed a chance to win against Riagh as T-max missed from the spot, they have to get Tiber Haseon involved as he is the best young striker in the league.

Younes – The loss of talisman Romeo Ianson is a major loss and you could see Younes collapse after he went off but they to move on. They next face Mariners who been them in the playoffs 2 years ago.

2nd ROUND

Barki 2 x 2 Carnavale
Weston, 31, Bera, 43,
73, Gotsell, 48
Att. 26,483
The Lecton was not as full as it has been in recent games but the fans got the entertainment they wanted. Barki were the usual tough and tackling team that they are while Carna showed they have talent in store. The game was opened up when Alvaro Ciaro raced down the middle on a counter-attack but was driven wide to the left; he hung a great cross from the wing for Alex Weston to head home on 31. Barki were cruising but a lapse in concentration by Justin Arnolde left Tony Bera to score the easiest goal of his long career as he rounded the keeper. Carna were the better team at the start of the half as new sensation Aeron Gotsell showed tremendous skills and he put them ahead with a wonder-goal. He picked up a slick pass from the edge of the box and pinged it in off the post to score. But Barki are a tough side and parity was restored with Weston as he headed in the leveller on 73. Carna now face Garth in the Sandonian derby next week.

Bondard 3 x 0 Celdical AC
D’Agostino (p) 4
Terence, 56
Sawe, 81
Att. 61,492
Bondard simply thrashed Celdical with a little help from the ref; he gave a penalty after 4 minutes for a phantom foul on Caesar. Felix D’Agostino was signed from Riaghstene and the centre-half took the pen to score. Celdical were stunned and struggled to gain a foothold. Last week hey had collapsed in similar circumstances at home to Union. Krallep had a slight chance to level and Caivega was also keen but they seemed to lack the final pass. In the second half Bondard struck again; this time Tony Terence bundled several defenders of the way to lash home. Just as Celdical were sitting back to take a 2-0; Bondard struck again as Paul Sawe tucked home a loose rebound. A good win for Bondard and they maintain a100% record.

Celcostene 1 x 0 Garth
Carter, 37
Celco carried on where they had left off with a seriously ground out victory that was soured by the injury to their captain and talisman Orwadh Amin. The win was secured by the link-up between Vince Mardell and Amin as they set up Carter to race down the middle and score. Garth are not the team of last season as they struggled to keep up and you could easily see the missing quality as they have sold; Vernon, Mays, Felder, Bera, Macon and others without replacing them.

Fro-er-Riar 2 x 3 Lobrinetonia
Foncisello(p) 7 Swanson og, 37
Steele, 54 Stinio, 58
Johnson, 74
Att. 70,277
The 1st Fro-er-riar derby was an incredible affair as it swung from side to side; these games especially FER-Lobby are usually the games that define the season for these clubs especially for FER as Lobby grade themselves against Celdical. Tanis Gisou raced down the wing and cut in only to be fouled for a penalty. Mico Foncisello stepped up and scored. Lobby then had their chances with Smithson; who only recently signed from FER coming close. From a corner Stinio headed down only for Swanson to turn it into his own net for 1-1. So it remained until the second half; Roce Stinio headed in a corner as FER fell to a set-piece again. FER then started to play better and they were rewarded on 54 mins as Prenton Steele curled a shot with his weaker right foot to level the game. This meant FER were confident as they pushed for the winner and they looked like they could get it but they were left bare at the back and Lobby made them pay; Miles Johnson raced down the middle and chipped in over Swanson for the goal of the week. Bad news for FER as it is 2 defeats on the bounce; it could be the Post-Tournae blip that teams seem to face they return to Superleague.

Ortovyde 1 x 1 Kemojoran
Zuille, 53 Rudolphe, 3
Att.43,549
Orto got over their bad opening game with a good draw at home to Kemo; Kemo had suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Mariners. So Kemo must have been glad when they went ahead on 3 mins thanks to some slack passing by new boy Camron Dauthen and Elias Rudolphe scraped through to score his own rebound. Orto looked like Dolphins out of water as their nickname is the “dolphins” and they could have got further behind as Dahe, Felilah and Rudolphe had chances to score. Luckily in the second half the dolphins were swimming again as Zuille won a penalty and scored it. Orto ten had the upper hand but failed to seal the game.

Riagh Grande 1 x 4 Mariners
Auter, 28 Eldrich, 46, 60
Bodrillard, 75 (p)
Vialli 80
Att. 78,851
The biggest Superleague crowd of the season came to see the ‘Grande Old Club’ make their return to the big time; they were sorely disappointed as Mariners romped home. They was a standing ovation for Jores Pintare as he is a fans favourite at the Keltusar; he played just one season here but scored 39 goals to win them the title in 91 and even though he left immediately after that for Lazarus in Kinturia. They would probably take back the ovation after the game but for the 1st half it was cruising. Aron Auter drifted through the defence and scored his second goal of the season; even though he is scoring he fails to link well with Josi Pelagio. The second half started with a bang as a suicidal lapse in attention resulted in Eldrich putting Mariners level with a standing header. Mariners will be good away from home as they are the best counter-attacking side in the league and they were ahead on 60 through Eldrich again. A penalty made it worse for Riagh as Bodrillard scored; Frank Vialli put the added gloss on the score with a tap-in late on.

Varmonde 2 x 1 Pvorby
Glystel, 11 Fedalori, 85
Kubota, 72
The league has a new star in Torian Glystel; he was one of the finds of last season but was kept back a year to build his stamina. Now at 17 he has made one of the biggest impressions since Cory Stevens 8 years ago. Varmonde lack the money to gamble on big stars but their facilities are second to none and they are now churning out players. Glysel scored early on as he lashed home a pass from a free-kick. His overall contribution was much better as glided past defender with ease; if only he could learn when to pass it. The dribbling game is not as prevalent as it was because of the lack of pace and tight marking but in Glystel we had the best. Ames Kubota settled it with a header later in the 72nd minute to make it 2-0 and though Fedalori pulled one back for Pvorby, it was too late. Varmonde were Calde Cup winners and in Ene Losano they have a former championship winner so they will not be fighting relegation this year.

Wossen U 0 x 1 Trinity
Granath, 28
Att. 67,534
Union undid all their good work away to Celdical last week with a tepid loss to Trinity; who defended doggedly till the end. There was no slick passing, no movement, no gusto and that is why they lost. Uli Granath scored what was to be the winner on 28 mins as a slight lapse allowed him to find the narrowest of gaps to head past Paton. Union tried several changes to try and change the balance but they all failed as Trinity were solid at the back.

Younes OC 1 x 0 Wossen City
Ianson, 81
Att. 27,384
Younes scored the biggest win in their history in this their first outing in the top division. For City it is more bad news and a reflection of the in-house fighting at boardroom level. Peter Bray wasn’t the first choice of the board; it was Ike Weine but he chose to stay at Ortovyde. Then they tried Steve Derconte at Pvorby and he was vetoed; they somehow arrived at the compromise candidate in Bray. Bray had taken Garth from a lowly provincial team to a top 6 team, the theory was ‘imagine what he could achieve with money?’ The appointment was a farce as Bray came in late and wasn’t involved with signing players and had only now been allowed to bring in his own staff. The questions remains whether Bray can handle big-time players and whether these players can respect him. Jose Regulan at Porto Allegre would jump at the chance to manage City but the board want to give Bray a few more games before they slide into oblivion. The game was a farce; City had 14 shots and none looked like going in. The best player was Devon Taylor as he saved 9 clear chances to score; Romeo Ianson latched on to a mistake by Nicholson to race through and score. Troubled times at City

ROUND 1

Barki 2 x 0 Ortovyde
Kuces, 28,
Outher, 91
Att. 28,934
Barki picked up where they left off; after finishing 6th last year. Lacon Kuces opened the scoring with a powerful header and Barki held firm until Substitute Saul Outher headed another in. Ortovyde were poor as Larkowitz failed to connect with Gray and Zuille was shackled on the right. Barki came out as rated worse in the stats but they proved them wrong.

Bondard 2 x 1 Wossen City
Ronnelson, 87 Jameson, 65
Javerahn, 93
Att. 61,438

This scoreline doesn’t even begin to tell the story of this game. Gustouw was sent off in the first half for a retaliation on D’Agostino. The City took control and Jameson raced through and calmly slotted to put city ahead; City were rash with challenges as the team tried to play the physical game of Peter Bray. Marcel was sent off and this signalled a collapse by city. Bondard went all out and Ronnelson chipped them level as he caught the whole City defence asleep. Leo Doyen was at fault for the next goal as well as he failed to clear and Clarence Javerahn was there to stab it home. Andy Rayne will love the battling performance and they play Celdical Next.

Carnavale 1 x 1 Younes OC
Toh, 10 Malkor, 78
Att. 51,347
Carnavale had the full house to wish them well as they prepared for another season, this seemed to be all rosy as Latif Toh reminded the fans why he is their favourite; he lashed a shot from the edge of the box. 1-0 to Carna and things were swimmingly but they failed to kill off the game. Younes Officers Club is the newest superleague team and they had to restore their honour and they did it late on as Johny Malkor powered a header past Bastell who was 10 metres out of position. Carnavale have a hidden weapon in 3 youngsters coming in from the academy.

Celcostene 1 x 0 Trinity
Carter, 22
Att. 47,874
Celcostene marked their return to the big time with a team that has managed to stay in the superleague for 5 years now. Celco have splashed out on the likes on Mardell, Seedone and Carter and they combined to set up the only goal and Carter Calmly slipped it under Correo. Both teams will have to seriously improve to stay in this league but you feel they have the personnel to do it.

Celdical 2 x 4 Wossen Union
Janse, 58 Casey, 26, 45
Canivega, 87 Resa Kii, 27
Harman, 65
Att. 51,697
Air Corps had their worst start to the season in recent years’ it was Larry Archer returning to the club he managed for 10 years who dealt the lethal blow. All this in a game which Celdical should have won; Christain Ronet was sent off in the 18th minute but instead of laying back; Union pushed forward and Bendero soon won a penalty. Casey dispatched it off the post and onto the keepers back and Union were celebrating. Tim Maxwell-Davis is into the team that can fit his lust for glory; he set up Danoc Resa Kii for a goal on his debut, a calm right-foot drive. Celdical were stunned and they were even more dumbstruck as Casey put them further behind; Resa Kii returned the favour to Casey, who glided through to dink past Thorne. Milton Janse scored on his league debut for AC but there was still no push for a leveller. Harman headed a Bendero cross to make it 4-1 and the crowd started to empty. Canivega took it on himself to fight back and pulled them back to 4-2 but the fight back was too late.

FER 0 x 1 Pvorby
James Og.
Att. 69,295
It would be another season if FER aren’t struggling at the beginning, last year they lost to Mariners on the opening day and this time it was Pvorby. FER were poor as most of their strikers were misfiring; Tanis Gisou had a bad game and so did Arsenio. The goal was a tepid own goal as Junior James went for the all with Paul Scelka and it beat the keeper. Bad news for Pvorby; Farel Kuxta is out for a month.

Garth 2 x 1 Varmonde
White, 27 Coloradi, 87
Selner, 80
Att. 24,586
Garth carried on where they left off last season with a firm win at Var; the new Manager is Gose Herdow the former assistant of Peter Bray. Rio White is still their main creative pulse and he got up score a penalty he had won on 27. Garth were solid and were always more likely to score again; Jahn Bonovel was dominant up front and seems to be a good replacement for Tony Bera. Will Selner came up from defence to score a header on 80, Coloradi pulled one back but it was too late and Garth start well.

Kemo 0 x 3 Mariners
Eldrich, 29, 52, 79
Att. 47,328
Marcel Carimo had a rude awakening to his Kemojoran career as he fell prey to the ever improving protégé Jores Pintare. Carimo coached Pintare when he was at Varmonde; Pintare lists him as his biggest idol but all that was set aside for this encounter. Kemo had a terrible pre-season as they lost heavily in the Jzerian Cup and it seemed this hangover carried on till this day. All three goals were defensive errors of the schoolboy variety; al three were punished by Eldrich, and Kemo look like they should have bought some creative players.

Lobrinetonia 1 x 1 Riagh Grande
Vallerio, 88 Auter, 39
Att. 45,485
You wouldn’t think Lobby were champions on the evidence of this showing; in fact for 88 minutes they were dour and only a lucky goal got them back in. All the defensive frailties of pre-season were there was Riagh should have been 3 goals up. Aron Auter was wasteful but headed in a Van Horan corner; Josi Pelagio was excellent as he dragged the defences aparts. Tyrel Smithson looks like a mercenary back for the money; Sasha Steven is maybe starting to look his 34 years and there is little creative spark in the team. Cory Stevens seriously flirted with a move to Wossen City; they would have missed him as he set up the equaliser. He hooked in a free kick from the left and Vallerio didn’t even have to move as he headed it into the net. This spared their blushes but they won’t get away with playing like this for long.

Next Week
Barki x Carnavale
Bondard x Celdical
Celcostene x Garth
FER x Lobrinetonia
Ortovyde x Kemo
Riagh x Mariners
Varmonde x Pvorby
