latest scores- updated 15/2/2007

2nd ROUND

Barki 2 x 2 Carnavale
Weston, 31, Bera, 43,
73, Gotsell, 48
Att. 26,483
The Lecton was not as full as it has been in recent games but the fans got the entertainment they wanted. Barki were the usual tough and tackling team that they are while Carna showed they have talent in store. The game was opened up when Alvaro Ciaro raced down the middle on a counter-attack but was driven wide to the left; he hung a great cross from the wing for Alex Weston to head home on 31. Barki were cruising but a lapse in concentration by Justin Arnolde left Tony Bera to score the easiest goal of his long career as he rounded the keeper. Carna were the better team at the start of the half as new sensation Aeron Gotsell showed tremendous skills and he put them ahead with a wonder-goal. He picked up a slick pass from the edge of the box and pinged it in off the post to score. But Barki are a tough side and parity was restored with Weston as he headed in the leveller on 73. Carna now face Garth in the Sandonian derby next week.

Bondard 3 x 0 Celdical AC
D’Agostino (p) 4
Terence, 56
Sawe, 81
Att. 61,492
Bondard simply thrashed Celdical with a little help from the ref; he gave a penalty after 4 minutes for a phantom foul on Caesar. Felix D’Agostino was signed from Riaghstene and the centre-half took the pen to score. Celdical were stunned and struggled to gain a foothold. Last week hey had collapsed in similar circumstances at home to Union. Krallep had a slight chance to level and Caivega was also keen but they seemed to lack the final pass. In the second half Bondard struck again; this time Tony Terence bundled several defenders of the way to lash home. Just as Celdical were sitting back to take a 2-0; Bondard struck again as Paul Sawe tucked home a loose rebound. A good win for Bondard and they maintain a100% record.

Celcostene 1 x 0 Garth
Carter, 37
Celco carried on where they had left off with a seriously ground out victory that was soured by the injury to their captain and talisman Orwadh Amin. The win was secured by the link-up between Vince Mardell and Amin as they set up Carter to race down the middle and score. Garth are not the team of last season as they struggled to keep up and you could easily see the missing quality as they have sold; Vernon, Mays, Felder, Bera, Macon and others without replacing them.

Fro-er-Riar 2 x 3 Lobrinetonia
Foncisello(p) 7 Swanson og, 37
Steele, 54 Stinio, 58
Johnson, 74
Att. 70,277
The 1st Fro-er-riar derby was an incredible affair as it swung from side to side; these games especially FER-Lobby are usually the games that define the season for these clubs especially for FER as Lobby grade themselves against Celdical. Tanis Gisou raced down the wing and cut in only to be fouled for a penalty. Mico Foncisello stepped up and scored. Lobby then had their chances with Smithson; who only recently signed from FER coming close. From a corner Stinio headed down only for Swanson to turn it into his own net for 1-1. So it remained until the second half; Roce Stinio headed in a corner as FER fell to a set-piece again. FER then started to play better and they were rewarded on 54 mins as Prenton Steele curled a shot with his weaker right foot to level the game. This meant FER were confident as they pushed for the winner and they looked like they could get it but they were left bare at the back and Lobby made them pay; Miles Johnson raced down the middle and chipped in over Swanson for the goal of the week. Bad news for FER as it is 2 defeats on the bounce; it could be the Post-Tournae blip that teams seem to face they return to Superleague.

Ortovyde 1 x 1 Kemojoran
Zuille, 53 Rudolphe, 3
Att.43,549
Orto got over their bad opening game with a good draw at home to Kemo; Kemo had suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Mariners. So Kemo must have been glad when they went ahead on 3 mins thanks to some slack passing by new boy Camron Dauthen and Elias Rudolphe scraped through to score his own rebound. Orto looked like Dolphins out of water as their nickname is the “dolphins” and they could have got further behind as Dahe, Felilah and Rudolphe had chances to score. Luckily in the second half the dolphins were swimming again as Zuille won a penalty and scored it. Orto ten had the upper hand but failed to seal the game.

Riagh Grande 1 x 4 Mariners
Auter, 28 Eldrich, 46, 60
Bodrillard, 75 (p)
Vialli 80
Att. 78,851
The biggest Superleague crowd of the season came to see the ‘Grande Old Club’ make their return to the big time; they were sorely disappointed as Mariners romped home. They was a standing ovation for Jores Pintare as he is a fans favourite at the Keltusar; he played just one season here but scored 39 goals to win them the title in 91 and even though he left immediately after that for Lazarus in Kinturia. They would probably take back the ovation after the game but for the 1st half it was cruising. Aron Auter drifted through the defence and scored his second goal of the season; even though he is scoring he fails to link well with Josi Pelagio. The second half started with a bang as a suicidal lapse in attention resulted in Eldrich putting Mariners level with a standing header. Mariners will be good away from home as they are the best counter-attacking side in the league and they were ahead on 60 through Eldrich again. A penalty made it worse for Riagh as Bodrillard scored; Frank Vialli put the added gloss on the score with a tap-in late on.

Varmonde 2 x 1 Pvorby
Glystel, 11 Fedalori, 85
Kubota, 72
The league has a new star in Torian Glystel; he was one of the finds of last season but was kept back a year to build his stamina. Now at 17 he has made one of the biggest impressions since Cory Stevens 8 years ago. Varmonde lack the money to gamble on big stars but their facilities are second to none and they are now churning out players. Glysel scored early on as he lashed home a pass from a free-kick. His overall contribution was much better as glided past defender with ease; if only he could learn when to pass it. The dribbling game is not as prevalent as it was because of the lack of pace and tight marking but in Glystel we had the best. Ames Kubota settled it with a header later in the 72nd minute to make it 2-0 and though Fedalori pulled one back for Pvorby, it was too late. Varmonde were Calde Cup winners and in Ene Losano they have a former championship winner so they will not be fighting relegation this year.

Wossen U 0 x 1 Trinity
Granath, 28
Att. 67,534
Union undid all their good work away to Celdical last week with a tepid loss to Trinity; who defended doggedly till the end. There was no slick passing, no movement, no gusto and that is why they lost. Uli Granath scored what was to be the winner on 28 mins as a slight lapse allowed him to find the narrowest of gaps to head past Paton. Union tried several changes to try and change the balance but they all failed as Trinity were solid at the back.

Younes OC 1 x 0 Wossen City
Ianson, 81
Att. 27,384
Younes scored the biggest win in their history in this their first outing in the top division. For City it is more bad news and a reflection of the in-house fighting at boardroom level. Peter Bray wasn’t the first choice of the board; it was Ike Weine but he chose to stay at Ortovyde. Then they tried Steve Derconte at Pvorby and he was vetoed; they somehow arrived at the compromise candidate in Bray. Bray had taken Garth from a lowly provincial team to a top 6 team, the theory was ‘imagine what he could achieve with money?’ The appointment was a farce as Bray came in late and wasn’t involved with signing players and had only now been allowed to bring in his own staff. The questions remains whether Bray can handle big-time players and whether these players can respect him. Jose Regulan at Porto Allegre would jump at the chance to manage City but the board want to give Bray a few more games before they slide into oblivion. The game was a farce; City had 14 shots and none looked like going in. The best player was Devon Taylor as he saved 9 clear chances to score; Romeo Ianson latched on to a mistake by Nicholson to race through and score. Troubled times at City
